JSC IrkutsEnergo is one of the largest Russian generating companies and the largest in Siberia.
The company manages a cascade of three hydro power plants on the Angara River: Irkutsk, Bratsk and Ust-Ilimsk. Total installed capacity is over 9,000 MW. IrkutskEnergo's other assets are thirteen thermal plants with a total installed capacity of more than 3,000 MW, and several thermal transmission grids.
Unlike the majority of the world's HPPs, IrkutsEnergo's are not affected by seasonal water level variations, since the Angara river benefits from Lake Baikal's discharge, which has proven relatively stable for as long as records exist.
IrkutskEnergo has a major ten-year programme underway to modernise its generating facilities and power-supply grids.
